In the years 2019-2017, there was a jump in the number of heads of authorities in the Arab sector who received threats - according to a report prepared for tomorrow's (Wednesday) discussion in the Knesset's special committee to eradicate crime in Arab society.

The report, prepared by the Knesset's Research and Information Department and received by Walla!

NEWS, also indicates an increase in the number of non-Jewish authorities who encountered threats.

The data in the report are based on data from the Israel Police's threatened section.

They show that during the said period the number of threatened authorities from the Arab sector increased, which almost doubled compared to the Jewish sector, where the number decreased at the same time.

In 2017, the list of threatened included 27 heads of authorities from the Jewish sector compared to 18 heads of authorities from the non-Jewish sector in Israel, and a year later the trend reversed, with 34 heads of authorities from the non-Jewish sector appearing against 23 heads of threatened authorities from the Jewish sector.

In 2019, the gap widened, and 18 threatened heads of authorities from the Jewish sector entered the list, compared with 35 from the non-Jewish sector.

This year, until August, the police identified 15 heads of authorities from the Jewish sector and 23 from the non-Jewish sector as threatened.

The report also shows that not only heads of local authorities are in the crosshairs, as the number of non-Jewish local government employees who are under threat has also increased significantly - from 44 in 2017 to 64 in 2018.

In 2019 their number is small, but soared this year again, and as of November 2020 it is 149.

"Doubling the number of Arab authorities threatened in recent years indicates the desire of criminal organizations and criminal elements to take over decision-making centers and resources, and on the other hand indicates a resounding failure to deal with factors The law is against these factors, "he told Walla!
