The problem of garbage disposal in Hong Kong has always been criticized, and the current design of garbage depots and the number of garbage bins have also aroused discussion.

Last year, the Wan Chai District Council sponsored a research group to conduct a study on improving the garbage station and resource recovery system in the district. It lasted four and a half months. The research report was released yesterday (20th), revealing that the garbage bins in the district are very dense. The most exaggerated one is in the Golden Bauhinia Square. There are two trash cans located less than 1.5 meters apart.

The research group believes that relevant departments should re-examine the necessity of trash bins on the street, and "add barrels" or "reduce barrels" as appropriate depending on the situation.

The Wan Chai District Council last year commissioned the Infinite Hong Kong Fund Co., Ltd. to conduct research on garbage and recycling issues in the district. The research group has visited the streets of Wan Chai for four and a half months to investigate street cleaning, garbage collection, garbage transfer and garbage recycling. The results of the study were yesterday (21 Japan) The Wan Chai Food and Environmental Hygiene Committee issued a report saying that the garbage bins in the area are too densely distributed, the garbage stations are poorly designed, and there is room for improvement in the recycling points.

The trash can is divided into three departments, fresh communication and coordination between management departments

Lu Miaomin, a representative of Infinite Hong Kong Fund Co., Ltd., pointed out that the government lacks accurate data on the distribution and density of street trash bins, and most of the existing data, such as the display location, are wrong.

The trash cans on the street are mainly managed by three departments, namely the Food and Environmental Protection Department, the Environmental Protection Department and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. However, there is little communication and coordination among the departments, which leads to the high density of trash cans.

The research group suggested that the government re-examine the necessity of trash bins and set up a "trash bin reporting platform" so that citizens can quickly notify the authorities when they encounter problems such as overfilled trash bins, large garbage, or littering, so as to facilitate cleaning departments Fast processing.

As of March 1 this year, the study indicated that there are a total of 715 garbage/recycling bins in Wan Chai District, of which more than half (395) are managed by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, about 30% (228) are managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and the remaining 92 One is handled by the Environmental Protection Agency.

About 90% of the FEHD trash bins involved in this study are less than the current recommended standard of 90 meters.

The most exaggerated is that outside the Golden Bauhinia Square, there are two FEHD trash bins less than 1.5 meters apart, and there are also trash bins managed by different departments on Yunjing Road that are less than 10 meters apart, but the research group personally Upon inspection, it was found that Yunjing Road was sparsely populated, and it was believed that there were too many garbage bins on the site.

Announced that the trash station should be baked to encourage workers to have a narrow rest space

As for the design of refuse collection points, the report focuses on ten public refuse collection points and one temporary refuse collection point in Wan Chai District.

Most of the garbage collection points have problems such as insufficient lighting and poor rest environment for workers. Among them, the Gloucester Road garbage collection point that has been in operation for the longest time (1982) and handles the largest amount of garbage (47 tons per day), and many more places are needed improve.

Due to the old design of the building, there is not enough space inside for workers to work and store personal belongings.

The workers also revealed to the research group that the waste station needs to withstand the exhaust gas and heat from the flyover and the road, and it is very hot in summer, and it is impossible to stay in the office space at all.

The exit of the Gloucester Road garbage station has also fallen into disrepair and has become "dissolved." The research group believes that the government should refurbish the old garbage station and make good use of the space to provide a better working environment.

The research group also conducted research on the "Green in Wanchai" recycling point. The "Green in Wanchai" has been completed and will be opened after operating tenders.

The research group found that some of the recycling points in Wan Chai are relatively remote, and believe that if no incentive is provided, the public may not choose to go there deliberately.

Take "Green in Wanchai" as an example. It is about 7 minutes away from Gooseneck Bridge. It may be difficult for citizens with large or more recyclables to get there. In addition, the site area is only 700 square meters, which is less than the 1,500 square meters recommended by the Environmental Protection Department. , I believe that the scale of recycling services will be limited.

The research report also found that the residents of Wan Chai are highly aware of environmental protection, and there is a lot of recycling in the area. Lu Miao-min thinks that if "green in the district" can carry out more outreach work, plant edible plants on the facade of the building, and use the annual harvest period to become the public Activities will be more attractive.

The representative of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department at the scene responded that the two adjacent trash bins outside the Golden Bauhinia Square were placed on the site when the government developed the site. The food ring is only managed on behalf of it, so it is not clear that the trash bins are too close. the reason.

In Tai Wai, the trash bins are densely placed. The department stated that the number will vary according to the different districts. The principle of placement is based on the needs of the public.

Regarding the research group's suggestion that the garbage station needs to be refurbished, the department said it was difficult because the garbage station could not be completely shut down. However, the department stated that it could study improvements with the Architectural Services Department for the lamp and underground dilapidation of the garbage station.
