US officials revealed that the United States plans to keep 100,000 military personnel in Europe, with the possibility of increasing this number.
CNN quoted officials, who did not reveal their identities, as saying today that the number of US military personnel in Europe may increase temporarily in the event that NATO conducts military exercises in the region, and that the United States may deploy more military bases in the old continent if The occurrence of what they called “changes in the security environment.”
The United States recently increased the number of its forces in Europe from 60,000 to at least 100,000 under the pretext of the Russian special military operation to protect Donbass, focusing in this step on the eastern flank of NATO.
In addition to the US Senate's approval of an additional $40 billion military and economic aid package for Ukraine, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby announced that his country would provide Kyiv with long-range artillery systems.
"The basic need that the Ukrainians continue to insist on is to have systems that will enable them to fire at long range, and we are working on that and helping them get such systems," Kirby told a news conference yesterday.
Kirby acknowledged that the United States had already delivered dozens of M777 howitzers to the system in Kyiv, indicating that Washington's allies were helping Ukraine with their artillery systems.
Russia has warned on more than one occasion that arms shipments sent by the United States and some NATO member states are exacerbating the crisis in Ukraine and exacerbating the situation rather than contributing to its solution.
