According to the prosecutor of Le Havre, Bruno Dieudonné, the facts took place around 7:00 am on Sunday.
"
The municipal police are called to intervene (...) because they are told of a vehicle that is committing a number of traffic violations
".
“
A group of about ten people arrived nearby to join this control (…) with hostile behavior
”, he specifies.
A policeman, who leaves without using an electric pulse gun, is then hit with a belt by one of the people present.
He tries “
to repel his attacker by firing his pistol.
Concomitantly, his colleague takes out his gas and sends a jet in the direction of the young person.
It is the combined and simultaneous action of the two which will produce an impressive start of fire.
The upper body is on fire
, ”explains the magistrate.
"
On the camera images, we see that the municipal policeman immediately tries to help the victim
," he adds.

The young man suffers from "
second degree burns
" and "
has not yet been heard because his condition does not allow it
", the prosecutor told an AFP correspondent.
Still hospitalized, he "
was transferred to Rouen given the seriousness of his injuries
" but "
his vital prognosis has never been engaged
", it was specified from the same source.
An investigation was opened "
for violence with weapons resulting in an ITT (temporary incapacity for work, editor's note) on a person holding public authority.
It will also be a question of understanding how this young person was burned.
The policeman, very shocked, was granted a 4-day ITT
, ”said Bruno Dieudonné.
