Twenty-seven Chinese military aircraft entered the Taiwanese air defense zone on Wednesday afternoon, Taipei announced.
The day before, 21 had entered the same area, called the "Air Defense Identification Zone ("Adiz")", which covers an area much larger than its airspace.
The irruption of these planes takes place in the middle of a visit by the speaker of the American House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taipei, a visit which arouses the ire of China, which considers Taiwan as part of its territory and vehemently opposes to any form of international recognition of the island.
“Those who offend China will be punished,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi promised on Wednesday.
