The epidemic situation in Hong Kong is gradually stabilizing, and today (8th) is the first day of quarantine-free customs clearance between the two places.
There were 14,113 new confirmed cases today, a decrease of 1,737 cases yesterday, falling to the level of 10,000 for the sixth consecutive day, and 431 imported cases.
Another 66 deaths were reported, bringing the seven-day average to 67.6, for a total of 12,342.
In addition, the Hospital Authority stated that a newly confirmed 2-year-old boy is in serious condition and is currently hospitalized in Princess Margaret Hospital.

The seven-day average number of imported confirmed cases was 342, and the seven-day average imported confirmed rate was 1.42%.
Since 2020, a total of 2,768,402 people have been diagnosed in Hong Kong.
Among the samples received by the Public Health Laboratory Service of the Department of Health from December 30 to January 5 for verification tests of local cases, about 50.98% of the samples were related to the BA.4/BA.5 substrain of the Omicron mutant virus strain.

The Department of Health has not found any imported or local cases of new variant virus Omicron subtype variant strains. So far, a total of 227 cases of XBB (including one XBB.1.5, six XBD, eight BA.2.75.2, seven BA.4.6) have been found , 13 cases of BF.7 and 38 cases of BQ.1.1 subseries, while local cases have accumulated 173 cases of XBB, 18 cases of XBD, 1 case of BA.2.75.2, 27 cases of BF.7 and 198 cases of BQ.1.1 subseries case.
Regarding schools, today is a school holiday and no new cases have been reported.
In terms of residential institutions, 18 residential institutions have confirmed cases, among which 23 residents and 6 staff have been diagnosed.
The Hospital Authority said it had received 66 new reported deaths, involving 33 men and 33 women, aged between 54 and 106, and 24 of them were from institutions.
In terms of injections, 34 people have received 3 injections, 10 have received 2 injections, 4 have received 4 injections, 4 have received 1 injection, and 14 have no injection records.
