The CFS appeals to those who are allergic to coconut not to consume the product concerned, and the trade should also stop using or selling the product immediately.

The Center for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said today (14th) that an imported prepackaged ready-to-eat matsutake rice may contain coconut ingredients that may cause allergies, but it has not been declared on the food label.
The Center for Food Safety appeals to people who are allergic to coconuts not to consume the products concerned, and the trade should stop using or selling the products immediately.

The spokesman of the center pointed out that through the food accident monitoring system, it was informed that the US Food and Drug Administration issued a notice that the above-mentioned product may contain coconut ingredients, but it was not marked on the food label and was being recalled locally. After learning of the incident, it immediately contacted the local main Importers and retailers follow suit.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the above-mentioned importer had imported the affected products and sold them at its retail outlets.
The importer has stopped the sale and removal of the affected products and launched a recall.
The spokesperson reminded that coconuts are allergens. People who are sensitive to coconut may experience vomiting, diarrhea, breathing difficulties, itchy skin, rashes, etc. after eating. In severe cases, it may even cause anaphylactic shock.
Other members of the public will generally not be affected if they consume the relevant products.
