It is the World Day of Girls and Women in Science, proclaimed by the United Nations to promote the full and equitable participation of women in science. Many events planned in Italy and worldwide.

"If we want to be able to face the huge challenges of the 21st century, from technology to climate change, we will have to rely on science and the mobilization of all our resources," said Audrey Azoulay, Unesco Director-General. For this reason, he added, "the world must not be deprived of the potential, intelligence or creativity of the thousands of women victims of inequalities and profound prejudices".

The day is celebrated with events all over the world: the main one is scheduled in Paris at the UNESCO headquarters with experts from different sectors, including talented researchers awarded through the L'Oréal-Unesco program for women in science.

Many events are also organized in Italy, such as the initiatives of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), which organizes a seminar in the National Laboratories of Legnaro dedicated to Marguerite Perey, who at the end of the 1930s discovered the chemical element of France. . The Frascati National Laboratories foresee a meeting open to students, with seven researchers who will talk about their work.

"Here we are", the researchers of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) disve on video, to make their voices heard to say that they are an active part of the world of science, that they are ever more numerous and that the progress of research also passes through their work and their skills.

The IIT researchers portrayed in the video are 40. Among them Arianna Traviglia, director of the IIT center of Venice (Ccht- Center for Cultural Heritage Technology), Athanassia Athanassiou, coordinator of the Smart Materials research line, Gabriella Panuccio, coordinator of a project Fet, Agniewszka Wykowska, Alessandra Sciutti, Laura Cancedda and Ilka Kriegel, all four winners of the prestigious projects financed by the European Union through the European Research Council (ERC)

In Rome, in the Infn section of the Sapienza University, the researchers will be the protagonists of seminars on particle physics. There are also many events of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF). In the South Tyrol Museum of Natural Sciences in Bolzano, astrophysics Patrizia Caraveo will tell about her discoveries. In Bologna, three researchers will talk about their activity in the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory project for the construction of two large observatories. In Cagliari, a Masterclass of astronomy and physics is planned for 50 girls, organized by Infn and the University of Cagliari.
