If you want a new color for your car or want to place advertising on it, you can put on film instead of paint. Some of them are particularly demanding when it comes to washing.

Munich (dpa / tmn) - Cars with foils can usually drive normally through car washes. However, drivers should avoid hot wax, the ADAC advises.

In the worst case, especially on matt or structured foils, stains can occur that cannot be removed. Wax is also taboo when hand washing these foils. You need special resources.

Some film manufacturers advise to only use washing systems with textile washing elements to avoid scratching nylon brushes. If you want to clean the vehicle with the high-pressure cleaner, keep a distance of at least 50 centimeters and do not aim directly at the edges of the foils.

Inexpensive alternative to painting

Foils usually cost less money than repainting. A self-adhesive film is applied to the surfaces. As a rule, this can be removed without damage, explains the ADAC. In this way, the appearance of the car can be changed quickly without having to repaint the vehicle permanently.

However, this solution is not for eternity. Depending on the quality and use, the film has to be removed from the vehicle after two to ten years, according to the ADAC. The auto club advises that the work with the foils should generally be left to specialists.
