Vintage car owners lovingly care for their vehicles - with success at HU. Oldies with an H license plate perform particularly well. The younger ones are particularly suitable for beginners.
Stuttgart (dpa / tmn) - Oldtimers are in good shape. The older the cars get, the better they do in the main inspection (HU). The number of defects found rises until the cars reach the age of 23 - after which they decrease.
The test organization GTÜ reports this with regard to its classic car deficiency statistics for 2019. Over half (54.9 percent) of cars in the age group 30 to 60 years drive up without defects. They also have 17.9 percent fewer "dangerous defects" than the average of all examined cars (22 percent).
Less dangerous defects than the average
Vehicles with an H license plate perform particularly well. 55.1 percent of them roll through the HU free of defects. Cars without a vintage license plate manage 44.2 percent. Very old cars are in even better shape. In the models with years of construction between 1920 and 1940, 78 percent of the vehicles are not objected to at all.
If you want to get into the oldie scene, you will find grateful vehicles, especially in the cars of the early 1990s.
Cars from the early 1990s for beginners
Technically mature, with simple, i.e. controllable electronics and a good supply of spare parts, they are particularly suitable for beginners, reports the GTÜ.
The first of them can even be equipped with H plates, for which they must be at least 30 years old, among other things. In 2020 these included models such as the Audi 100 (C4), BMW Dreier (E36), Mazda MX-5, Opel Calibra or the VW Bulli (T4) for the first time. According to the GTÜ, HU results from around 50,000 vehicles aged 30 and over were incorporated into the investigation.
