World Bank provides billions in aid for vaccinations in poorer countries
4.30 a.m.:
The World Bank is
making
a total of twelve billion dollars available to poorer countries for future vaccinations against the
corona virus
.
This should support the vaccination of "up to a billion people," said the multinational development bank.
The money should be used to help developing countries prepare for widespread vaccination of their populations against the virus.
The World Bank's vaccination aid is part of a comprehensive program of measures worth up to 160 billion dollars that the financial institution is using to help poorer countries fight the pandemic through June 2021.
The World Bank described its billions in aid for corona vaccinations as a signal to the pharmaceutical industry that citizens of developing countries "need access to safer and more effective Covid-19 vaccinations".
Numerous industrialized countries, including the USA and the EU, have already concluded supply contracts with the companies for a comprehensive supply of the future vaccines.
Pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions around the world are working flat out to develop vaccines against the novel coronavirus.
Several vaccine candidates are currently in the third and final test phase.
