The social network Tiktok announced today (Wednesday) that it will change the settings of the accounts of community members aged 13-15 and they will now be set to private by default.

Meaning - only friends approved by account holders will be able to watch the videos he or she creates.

According to Tiktok, the change is meant to ensure that younger members of the community can actively decide if they want to open their account to the public, as well as make informed choices about the content they choose to share.

As part of the new changes for accounts for teens ages 13-15, options for responding to 'friends' or 'nobody' will be reduced - and the 'everyone' option will be removed.

A change will be made to the Duet and Stitch video settings so that other community members in Tiktok will not be able to use content created by community members aged 13-15, and from now on videos created by community members aged 16 and over can only be downloaded.

All changes are valid for new entrants as well as existing community members.

In addition, Tiktok recently announced the expansion of the parental control function that allows greater control over their children’s user experience or the accounts linked to their account.

Elaine Fox, Head of Privacy at Tiktok Europe: "When it comes to protecting our community members and their privacy, we can never say 'we have reached our goal'. Our investment in this important issue will not stop here and we will continue to expand and refine our policies. We work collaboratively. Work closely with regulators and experts in the field of safety of network use and invest in technology and the education of our teams so that Tiktuk remains a safe place where everyone can express their creativity.
