According to Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), there are considerations about the production of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V in Europe.
During talks with the Russian side there was a request to see whether there could be production capacities in Germany or Europe, said Spahn on Wednesday at an online conference of "Tagesspiegel", "Zeit", "Handelsblatt" and "Wirtschaftswoche" .
"We can also provide support for the production of a vaccine that is not yet approved or not approved at all in Europe."
The health minister said he was pleased with any vaccine that showed effectiveness, was safe and could make a difference.
"To what extent this is the case with Sputnik V, the approval authority simply has to look at." There is contact and the approval procedure begins formally at the European Medicines Agency Ema.
According to information from Moscow, a corresponding application had been submitted there in January.
Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) had shown herself to be open to the use of the Russian vaccine in Germany in the ARD program “Color confess” on Tuesday.
Every vaccine is welcome in the EU, but it will only be approved if the Ema has the necessary data.
Merkel said she also spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the subject.
After criticizing the lack of reliable studies, Russian researchers published further details about the Sputnik V corona vaccine.
According to the new data, the vaccine has an effectiveness of 91.6 percent.
The results were published on Tuesday in the medical journal "The Lancet".
Spahn spoke of encouraging data.
The Kremlin spoke on Wednesday of a "very important publication that has shown the reliability and effectiveness of the Russian vaccine."
The number of countries that wanted to register Sputnik V is increasing every day, said spokesman Dmitri Peskow of the Interfax agency.
"In the near future, there are plans to build up production of the vaccine abroad as well."
Russia had already approved Sputnik V in the summer of 2020 in an urgent procedure - as the world's first corona vaccine.
The country apparently skipped the final security check.
Since then, more than 1.5 million people have reportedly been vaccinated in Russia.
