The spouse of a 30-year-old woman, discovered dead at her home in Lyon on the night of Thursday to Friday, was arrested in Switzerland, the prosecution said on Saturday.
The man was arrested Friday "at 11:15 pm, in Switzerland, as part of a judicial investigation opened in the afternoon by the Lyon prosecutor's office on the count of intentional homicide by spouse," he said. in a brief press release.
This arrest marks the end of a 24-hour run after the discovery of the victim's body, Friday around 2 a.m. at his home in the 3rd arrondissement.
Hammer blows
According to local media, the young woman died after receiving hammer blows.
Her husband, who had then fled, was wanted by investigators from the Departmental Security, in charge of the investigations.
"If certain difficulties within the couple had been able to give rise to mediation in 2015, since that date no complaint or procedure had been brought to the attention of the police or justice," the prosecution said Friday evening.
The victim's spouse was convicted in 2017 "for facts of lack of insurance", according to the same source.
In 2020, 90 women were killed by their spouses or ex-spouses.
In 2019, 146 feminicides were recorded by the government.
