Jewish-American film and television actor George Siegel has died at the age of 87 due to complications caused by a bypass surgery he underwent in California.
His wife Sonia Siegel confirmed that he had passed away: "The family announces in shock his death this morning as a result of complications caused by a recent bypass surgery. We are devastated."
Siegel won the Golden Globe Award in 1973 for his role in "Touch of Quality" and was nominated for the 1966 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?".
In recent years, Siegel has starred in the comedy series "Kill Me and That's It."
Siegel was born in Long Island to a Jewish family.
He began his career as a film actor in the early 1960s when he appeared in the dramas "The Longest Day", "The Whip Ship", "King of the Rat" and more and more.
In '66, he starred in the film "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", And for his performance in it he was nominated for an Oscar.
In 1968 he was nominated for the AFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "No Way to Treat a Lady" as Detective Morris Bromel. In 1973 he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his role as Steve Blackburn in the British romantic comedy "Touch of Quality" He last appeared in cinemas in 2010 in the comedy-drama "On Love and Other Drugs."
Starting in 2013, Siegel starred in the Goldberg television series.
He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award twice for Best Comedian.
