The South Korean hit series "The Squid Game" has become very popular around the world since it aired on Netflix, and was recently announced as the most watched TV series by the streaming giant.
Now, comes the less pleasant side of success - using the brand name of the series to attack your smartphone.
Lux Stepenko, a researcher at information security company ESET, has discovered that the Squid Wallpaper 4K HD app - which provides backgrounds of the "squid game" and was found in Google's Play Store, was developed with the aim of infecting users with a damage known as the Joker.
Since the report, the app has been removed from the store by Google, but more than 5,000 users have already downloaded and used it.
In a tweet on his Twitter account, Stanfeko wrote: "Running the app on the device may result in malicious advertising fraud as well as perform unwanted sign-up actions for a paid SMS service."

"Joker is a malware with a clear financial purpose," says Aviran Hazum, head of the mobile research team at Cyber Security Point.
"By registering victims for various services (horoscope and Fact of the Day, etc.) without the victim's approval or knowledge, the player behind the damage receives 'premiums' for each customer he registers for the service."
Also, the Joker has the ability to open A hidden browser from the user, discover landing pages of paid services and start the victim registration process. Done ", emphasizes Hazum.
