The device of the Chinese brand, which has not yet officially arrived in Israel, shows quite a few good capabilities in relation to its price level, but does not really compete with the flagship devices, or even less expensive smartphones.

The vivo brand from the Chinese company BBK - which is also the mother of one-plus, realme and OPPO that are already sold in Israel - has not yet made its official entry into the local market with official imports.

But now the company's smartphones, which are ranked 5th in the global cellular market, have come in parallel imports to the GoMobile network.

For starters, there are only two models in the country, and the model we took for review, vivo Y52 5G, you can find for NIS 1,049.

So how does the vivo smartphone feel and what is the most noticeable drawback, at least for now?

Design and structure

The design of the vivo Y52 5G is handsome and elegant and feels like the rest of BBK's smartphones at the same level.

Price, with its back made of glossy plastic (you will not get glass at this price), in a shade ranging from very light gray to black (vivo call it Graphite Black).

On the front is a 6.58-inch IPS LCD screen with a socket for the selfie camera in a drop configuration.

Is not particularly thin - 8.5 mm, but also pleasant to hold even without the coverage and extra heavy - 193 grams. Rear concentrated photographic unit rectangular frame, which includes three sensors, along with LED flash (flash).

At the bottom you can still find a traditional headphone jack (you will get a pair of headphones in the package, and quite high quality is important to note), but this is a slightly strange decision, as most users have switched to wireless headphones in recent years.

Also, the charging socket as usual is of the USB-C type.

Display, interface and sound

The screen of the vivo Y52 5G as we have already said, is a 6.58-inch screen, of the LCD type with an IPS panel which means not bad sharpness and reasonable detail, but without very deep colors.

And that’s not a bad thing: the display looks great even in strong lighting (direct sun, for example) and still gets varied colors and excellent sharpness.

However, it is impossible not to relate to the disappointing sound of the speaker.

It is clear that vivo saved on a sound system (still, a smartphone for NIS 1,050), since the sound is not clean, without bass and sounds jarring even at very low volume.

Want to listen to music?

It's best you do it with headphones.

The Vivo Y52 5G has a MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G processor, along with 4GB of RAM.

True, this is not a particularly advanced specification, but in practice, except for slight stuttering here, we did not encounter slow deviation even though it is a kind of compromise.

The device also supports the fifth generation network (as its name implies), NFC connectivity - which allows contactless payment, memory expansion option and dual SIM.

As for battery life, the smartphone comes with an extra large battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh.

Another surprisingly good part is in the interface: the

device comes with Android 11 in the Funtouch OS 11.1 shell - vivo's user interface.

And unlike the other Chinese manufacturers that load on the operating system (hey, Shiomi), here the menus are neatly and cleverly designed (which is a bit reminiscent of a clean Android version).

And it is important to emphasize: the user interface does not exist in Hebrew.

However, you can set any other language (we tested the device in English), and still write and read in Hebrew.

Camera

On the technical side, the device's photo array offers a 48-megapixel main sensor, with an f / 1.8 aperture key, a wide-angle secondary lens with a 2-megapixel sensor, alongside a 2-megapixel macro lens as well.

Colors too bright.

In practice, even though it is a device with a low price tag, the results of the main camera are quite good in normal daylight, and it is clear that in vivo they did quite a bit of work in processing the images.

The level of detail is also good in full size (on a computer or tablet), but the colors are a bit too bright and the quality does not come close to what you will get in more expensive smartphones.

In any case, in less good lighting conditions - such as a night mode or an enclosed space without natural lighting, there is some smearing of the objects and over-processing of the brightness, but overall the images are good.

Deep image photography (bokeh effect) produces reasonable results as well.

Bottom line

The vivo Y52 sells for NIS 1,049 in the GoMobile network, a price level that puts it in a crowded place alongside other Chinese smartphones.

On the other hand, you can still find more advantages than disadvantages: it is beautiful, it has a good camera (for its price) and a simple and convenient user interface.

However, the lack of the Hebrew language, the LCD screen and the jarring speaker will be to blame.
