In the wake of the success achieved with the 3500 GT, Maserati expands its range of luxury models which, while maintaining the sporty DNA of the Tirdente, became in the 1960s the most desired cars by VIPs, actors and singers, true 'icons' of the Sweet life.

In 1963 the first Maserati flagship arrives, the Quattroporte. It is presented at the Turin Motor Show and amazes by introducing an entirely new category to the market, those of large luxury sports sedans.

Another mythical model of the Trident dates back to 1966, the first Ghibli, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro who works for Ghia. This car is presented at the Turin Motor Show and success is immediate. It will be produced until 1973 in 1,149 units, in addition to the 125 units of the spider variant.

But in 1970, again with the complicity of Giorgetto Giugiaro - who in the meantime founded his Italdesign style and design company - Maserati produced another masterpiece, the Bora two-seater mid-engined berlinetta. "The brief foresaw a car that was clearly a Maserati - reads the Italdesign press release - modern but without the exotic appearance that can create unnecessary decorations, surprisingly sporty but not excessively aggressive. In short: innovative but not revolutionary". Production went from 1971 to 1978 and the 564 specimens left the factory are today among the most coveted by collectors. In 1979 the third generation of the Quattroporte arrives (also by Giugiaro) which imposes itself in the niche of the flagships, so much so that it becomes theofficial car of President Sandro Pertini.

Up to 1990 2,141 units were produced.

A new model enters the Trident range in the 1980s: the Maserati Biturbo. Beautiful and extremely powerful, it uses a 6-cylinder 2-liter supercharged with two compressors and can reach speeds of 215 km / h. The design is inspired by that of the 1979 Quattroporte signed by Pierangelo Andreani, Maserati Style Head.

The date of 1993 has a very special value in the history of Maserati: the unthinkable is realized and two historical rivals - Ferrari's Trident and Prancing Horse - join forces. The new partnership sweeps away all traces of the historical rivalry between the two manufacturers. This leads to the splendid 1998 3200 GT, a coupé designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro with a Ferrari engine, which is presented at the Paris Motor Show. From this car comes the Spider, the model that will mark Maserati's triumphant return to the United States.

It is September 9, 2003 and the fifth Quattroporte family is presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is the first Maserati designed by Pininfarina in 50 years of history. Four years later (March 5, 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show) this fruitful collaboration makes an encore.

The new GranTurismo designed by Pininfarina, the first Maserati grand tourer, is launched as a world premiere on the Palexpo stage.

In 2013, the Detroit Auto Show was the backdrop for the world presentation of the sixth generation of Quattroporte.

The 'modern' Ghibli also arrives on the market, a sedan smaller than the flagship that is launched at the Shanghai Motor Show.

A year later, Maserati presented its Alfieri concept car at the Geneva Motor Show and celebrated its centenary with great critical and public success.

In 2016 and 2017 the Trident continues to offer innovations: Levante, the first SUV in the history of Maserati, which is unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

This is followed by the presentation of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio - which have undergone a successful restyling - at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
