Google took the step and yesterday (Saturday) released a critical security update to its popular Chrome browser for

PC

, which updates the browser to version 100.0.4896.127 in order to close a new day zero (CVE-2022-1364).

The vulnerability comes with a high hardware rating and is estimated to affect more than 3 billion users worldwide.

The vulnerability, which originates in a component of chromium code and exploits the JavaScript engine, allows remote code execution by attackers without the user's knowledge and also affects other browsers based on the browser engine - including Microsoft's Edge and Opera.

Google did not provide further details about the vulnerability identified other than the information released, but said it was reported on April 13 and gradually closed with an update released to users the very next day.

The browser should automatically update in the background when a new update is received.

However, it is advisable to manually check that the version you have is the latest.

Also, remember to restart your browser after installing the update, otherwise it will not run, and you will still be vulnerable to attack.
