A study by the Ituran company on car thefts in the third quarter of 2022, based on a national sample of about 700,000 vehicles, shows that due to the severe shortage of spare parts for cars, there is a 73% increase in car thefts compared to the same period last year.
Ituran anticipates a continuation of the upward trend in car thefts in the last quarter of 2022.
One of the reasons for the huge increase is the activity of car thieves 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If in the past the majority of car thefts occurred after dark, from the beginning of 2022 there will be a 116% increase in incidents that take place in daylight compared to the period last year.
Nir Sharetzky, CEO of Ituran Company: "In the 3rd quarter of 2022, enforcement squads arrested 227 squads suspected of car theft, an increase of 183% compared to the same period last year.
Most car theft gangs feed the spare parts sector, to restore the spare parts for sale in the Israeli market.
The arrest of the thief squads saved the Israeli economy NIS 1.25 billion."
The sample shows that in the analysis of the areas preferred by thieves, Gush Dan leads the theft table in Israel with 40% of all theft incidents, followed by the Sharon region with 26%, the southern region 14%, the Shefala region 7%, Jerusalem and Modiin 8%, the northern region 3% and "S 2%.
