The 30,000 dead mark of the new coronavirus was crossed Thursday in the United States, where there were nearly 33,000 deaths in the evening according to the real-time count of Johns Hopkins University. According to this source, consulted at 8:30 p.m., the country experienced 4,491 additional deaths in 24 hours. By far the highest daily toll, but it is very likely that this figure includes cases of deaths "probably linked" to Covid-19, but which were not initially counted as such.

This week, New York City announced that it would add 3,778 “probable” deaths from Covid-19 to its balance sheet.

According to the assessment at 8 pm (universal time) of the American Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), a government agency, the country counted 31,071 dead, including 4,141 "probable". A figure slightly lower than that then given by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States is the most bereaved country in the world, ahead of Italy (with 22,170 dead), Spain (19,315) and France (17,941).
