America the day after - It is still not clear who will rule the country for the next four years.
Both candidates took the stage early after the winners of the first states were declared: Joe Biden addressed his supporters in Wilmington, Donald Trump gave a speech in the White House.
Their appearances couldn't be more different.
Donald Trump, US President:
"We're going to win, and the way I see it, we've already won it."
Joe Biden, Democratic presidential candidate:
"We knew it would take a long time. But who knew that it might be until tomorrow morning? Maybe even longer? But we feel good where we are."
Donald Trump, US President:
"Millions of people voted for us today. And another sad group tried to deprive them of the right to vote. We won't allow that."
Joe Biden, Democratic presidential candidate:
"We have to be patient until the votes are counted. It only ends when every election, every vote is counted."
So after Trump claimed his election victory - long before all the votes in the country were counted - he again hinted at election manipulation.
Donald Trump, US President:
"This is a fraud against the American public. It is a shame for our country. We have prepared ourselves to win this election. Frankly, we won this election."
Joe Biden, Democratic presidential candidate:
"It is not my job or Donald Trump's job to explain who won this election. That is the decision of the American people. But I am optimistic about the outcome."
The incoming figures from the individual states also rated the two candidates very differently.
:
Donald Trump, US President:
"But most importantly: we win Pennsylvania by a huge margin. (...) And now we come to the good parts of Pennsylvania, where they happen to like your president."
Joe Biden, Democratic presidential candidate:
"It will take some time to count the votes we won in Pennsylvania."
Finally, Trump announced that he would be calling the Supreme Court, the highest court in the United States, to stop another vote count:
Donald Trump, US President:
"Our goal now is to ensure the integrity of this nation. This is a very big moment. This is a great betrayal of our nation. We want the law to be obeyed. That's why we're going to go to the Supreme Court. We want that all votes are ended. We don't want them to find and count any ballot papers at four in the morning. "
Joe Biden, Democratic presidential candidate:
"Keep the faith folks. We will win. Thank you guys. Your patience is great."
And once again everything turns out differently than expected in the US elections: In the forecasts, Democrat Joe Biden was far ahead of incumbent Donald Trump.
But it is now clear: it will be a close race for the White House - and it's not over yet.
