- "Unfortunately we had to find out that there are repeated unauthorized withdrawals of water from hydrants in the municipality."
Several months ago, municipal officials discovered a standpipe through which water was taken from the municipal network without a permit, explains town hall chief Martina Lietsch.
The thief has not been identified.
The standpipe has been removed.
It's about a crime
"We would like to point out that the withdrawal of drinking water from the public water distribution network is illegal and constitutes a criminal offense," said the municipality.
As the mayor emphasized to the development cooperation, there is a risk that the water will be contaminated with germs through such actions.
The unsecured installation of standpipes in public traffic areas or the connection of hoses also poses a considerable risk and is prohibited.
The municipality of Steinhöring reserves the right to take legal action and will take systematic action against illegal drinking water withdrawals, according to the town hall.
"But first of all we want to provide information," explained the mayor.
If an additional withdrawal of water for special purposes, for example to fill a pool, is desired, this can be approved.
For this purpose, a prior request to the municipal administration is necessary.
"I can't remember, however, that there have ever been difficulties," says the mayor.
