With the deceased counting in the thousands in recent days in the US, the president-elect, Joe Biden, has made a heartfelt appeal to US citizens on Monday, imploring them to please use the mask, now that the "worst wave" of the virus is yet to come.

Biden has spoken from Wilmington (Delaware, where his home is), for the first time since he addressed the country last Saturday to give his victory speech, in which he called to heal the wounds of a country divided to such an extent that the The outgoing president has not yet acknowledged his defeat (nor does it seem that he will do so any time soon).

With Kamala Harris at his side - the vice president-elect, who wore a mask and did not speak during Biden's appearance of just 10 minutes - the democrat has stressed that his goal is to control the coronavirus pandemic that is tearing the country and the world apart once he takes office on January 20.

According to the Johns Hopkins center, the United States reached 10 million cases of covid-19 this Monday.

President-elect Biden promised to ensure public health decisions are informed by public health experts.

We are making good on that promise.

"We are facing a very dark winter," said the veteran politician, who came to the podium with a mask and took it off just to speak.

The president-elect had just met with his newly created working group on covid-19.

"I beg you.

Wear a mask, ”he implored.

“Do it for you.

For his neighbor, "Biden continued, and then declared that" a mask is not a political statement, but it is a good way to start uniting the country.

Regarding the news known this morning that the Pfizer laboratory - which was one of those that did not receive financial aid from the Trump Administration - had achieved a 90% effective vaccine to combat the coronavirus, Biden has said that it was something very positive but he wanted to remain prudent by stating that it was obvious that the vaccine, "even if it were approved, would take months to be massively available."

The president-elect recalled that several days last week the United States registered more than 120,000 new cases of covid-19.

His next warning was very harsh: the country could "lose more than 200,000 lives in the coming months."

Unlike Trump, Biden does not deny or hide the severity of the pandemic, thereby also highlighting and recalling the more than 240,000 US citizens who have died to date.

While defining himself humbled by his victory, Biden did not miss the opportunity to remember that the elections had concluded, although he did not elaborate on the matter nor did he directly mention Donald Trump and his castling in power.

The office of the president-elect, who will not take office until January 20, 2021, unveiled the master lines of his plan that includes guaranteeing free access to tests for the disease;

solve problems with personal protective equipment (PPE);

as well as providing clear, consistent and evidence-based recommendations on how to deal with the pandemic.

In the opinion of Biden's team at the forefront of covid-19, it is essential that resources reach schools, small businesses and families.

But for the president-elect, the fight begins with masks and social distance.

Biden, who is going to seek the "immediate" reestablishment of the relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO), from which Trump removed the United States, considers that this partnership is essential to coordinate a global response, when in the world today the 50 million cases have been exceeded.

Unsurprisingly, the fight against coronavirus has already become an element of conflict between the outgoing White House and the president-elect.

On the day that Pfizer announced to the world that its vaccine against covid-19 is 90% effective, one of the sons of the Republican president, Donald Trump Jr, questioned the timing of the announcement, hinting that the multinational has done it now to help Biden.

"The timing is quite surprising," Trump's son tweeted.

"Doesn't anyone see anything wicked at the moment when all this happens? It was the conspiracy reaction of Trump Jr.

The timing of this is pretty amazing.

Nothing nefarious about the timing of this at all right?
