Several marches were held against the vacancy of former President Martín Vizcarra in Peru.
In Lima, there was tear gas and destruction during the demonstrations.
Jimena de la Quintana, a correspondent for CNN en Español, reports that she and her team were trapped in the middle of the protests, on a street where they stayed to take cover.
Local authorities had said that the job of the police was to guard the march, as long as the protesters did not try to break through the protective barriers.
