Charlie Watts, the legendary drummer for the Rolling Stones, has died at the age of 80.

Watts, until now the oldest member of the British band, announced at the beginning of this month of August that he would be withdrawn from the next tour of the Rolling Stones, scheduled to start next September in the United States, due to the fact that he had to recover from a recent "medical procedure", as the musician himself explained then in a statement.

British media reported at the time that Watts had undergone an operation in London after doctors observed a "problem" during a routine checkup.
In 2004, Watts had already been treated for throat cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
