The rock world is in mourning.

Charlie Watts, the legendary drummer for the Rolling Stones, has died at the age of 80.

According to some media such as the BBC or AFP, it has been his representative Bernard Doherty who has communicated the sad news.

“It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our dear Charlie Watts.

He has died peacefully in a London hospital today surrounded by his family.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and also, as a member of the Rolling Stones, one of the best drummers of his generation.

We ask that the privacy of his family, the members of the band and his closest friends be respected at this difficult time ”, the British band shared in a statement made public on social networks.

Watts, until now the oldest member of the British band, announced at the beginning of this month of August that he would be withdrawn from the next tour of the Rolling Stones, scheduled to start next September in the United States, due to the fact that he had to recover from a recent "medical procedure", as the musician himself explained then in a statement.

“Today I have accepted, following the advice of the experts, that this will take a while.

For once, my times have been a bit out of place, "he declared.

British media reported at the time that Watts had undergone an operation in London after doctors observed a "problem" during a routine checkup.

In 2004, Watts had already been treated for throat cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
