Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the former Soviet Union, died today at the age of 92.
The Central Clinical Hospital in the Russian capital, Moscow, stated that Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev died this evening after a severe and prolonged illness, according to what Russia Today reported.
It is noteworthy that on December 25, 1991, Gorbachev announced the termination of his activities as President of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and signed a decree transferring control of strategic nuclear weapons to then-Russian President Boris Yeltsin.
