The quality of life of the country's residents is measured by many variables, including noise nuisances. Prof. Stilian Gelberg, Director of the Noise and Radiation Prevention Division at the Ministry of Environmental Protection, presents a disturbing statistic in the field of noise, with 49.7% exposed to noise above 60 decibels, 22.6% above 65 decibels, and 7.4% above 70 decibels.
Prof. Stilian notes that environmental noise is an important public health issue and is among the leading environmental risks. He added: "The sensitivity of the population to noise has increased, alongside forced exposure to noise emanating from traffic on roads, railways and airport airspace."
Stilian emphasizes that children are a population that is particularly sensitive to noise, when noise impairs the normal development of the hearing system, and therefore we must be careful about the noises in our environment, while preserving our hearing and that of our children. "A national survey conducted in the United States shows that 8.5% of children aged six to 11 suffer from hearing loss. This percentage rises to 15.5% for those aged 12 to 19."
