The IDF confirmed to the publication today (Sunday) that Staff Sgt. (res.) Eliyahu Meir Ohana, 28, from Haifa, a soldier in Battalion 7810, the Yiftach Brigade (11), fell yesterday in battle in the central Gaza Strip, as a result of an IED explosion. This month, he had a second son.

His father told Israel Hayom: "He is our fourth son out of seven brothers. He studied at Yeshiva Yavne to study first, but in the middle he decided to enlist, serving in the PLO for 3 years. He is married to Ravia, and they lived in Afula. By Black Saturday night, he had been drafted into the reserves. This month, he had a second son. After the ceasefire, they jumped them and he entered Gaza."

"They didn't explain to us what happened there, they explained to us that there had been a battle and he was badly damaged in a Molad building in the central Gaza Strip. As a father of a fighter, there is concern, of course, but we know that the goal is right and that my son did the right thing. I never told him it would be better if he was released, nor would he have listened to me. We know this is a just war. Sometimes I don't understand why we're not more aggressive."
