Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) does not want to anchor the controversial rule on the distance between wind turbines and residential buildings in the Kohlaususstiegsgesetz. According to SPIEGEL information, these and other regulations for the expansion of renewable energies should be submitted to the Bundestag in a separate law. The split is likely to be needed to get the coal exit bill through Parliament by the end of the year.
The planned gap rule had sparked a wave of protest in recent weeks. It stipulates that new or retrofitted wind turbines must be located at least 1000 meters away from housing estates with more than five houses. In the implementation of this regulation, experts fear a far-reaching halt to the already stagnant wind power expansion on land.
The Ministry of Economy did not comment on the changes in the bill. A spokeswoman referred to the still ongoing ministerial vote.
