At least 14 people were killed when a train hit a bus in southern Pakistan's Sindh province, officials said on Friday (28 February).

The collision, which cut the bus in half, occurred at an unsupervised crossing in the southern Sukkur district, said Tariq Kolachi, a Pakistani railway executive. "At least 14 people have been killed," he said. "All of those killed and injured were passengers on the bus," with the exception of an assistant to the train driver, who was slightly injured, said Kolachi.
Sukkur district administrative assistant manager Rana Adeel reported 14 dead and 55 injured, some in critical condition. Tasneem Khamesani, an executive at the Sukkur civilian hospital, has recorded at least 18 injuries in his departments.

Rail accidents are common in Pakistan, which inherited thousands of kilometers of railways and trains from the former British colonial power. The railways have experienced decades of decline due to corruption, mismanagement and lack of investment.
