Rise in wheat: a big breath of fresh air for French grain producers

In the opinion of Eric Thirouin, the president of the General Association of French Wheat Producers (AGPB), the surges in the price of wheat beyond 300 euros per tonne on the futures market in Rouen - which is the benchmark in France - will have many repercussions, certainly diverse, but generally positive for the French cereal sector. After eight years of results penalized by the vagaries of the weather or prices at half mast, the approximately 245,000 grain producers in France are indeed seeing the horizon emerge quite clearly. With an income potentially doubled in 2021 compared to the average of the last seasons.

"We should arrive around two minimum wage this year per month, against less than one minimum wage over the last eight seasons,"

confirms Eric Thirouin, himself cereal in Eure-et-Loir.
