Is Israel on its way to becoming a wine powerhouse?

Well, there is still a long way to go - with all the affection for the local wine industry, there are countries smaller than Israel that are considered senior wine exporters and bigger than Israel - and yet, it is hard to ignore the impressive increase in export figures, what is more, a nice increase is expected in the coming years.

From the Export Institute's analysis of data from the research company Euromonitor, a positive effect of the Corona epidemic on consumption habits and wine sales in Israel (local and export) was found.

In 2021, there was a 21% increase in Israeli wine sales and by 2026 the expectation is for a 50% increase in total sales in the industry.

According to data from the Export Institute, wine exports in 2021

amounted to 61 million dollars, which means a dollar increase of about 23% compared to 2020. In the last decade, wine exports from Israel doubled and reached a peak.

Wine exports continue the positive trend with a dollar increase of about 12% compared to the same period last year.

In which countries is Israeli wine sold?

By geographic segmentation, about 70% of wine exports are directed to North America (USA and Canada). In continental Europe, France (10%) and Great Britain (5%) are the prominent countries for wine exports from Israel. Japan is the main trading partner in exports to Asia.

Exports to the USA "B" is leading the increase in wine exports from Israel.

In 2021, wine exports to the USA increased by a dollar rate of 31% and amounted to 38 million dollars. As of the data for the first half of 2022, wine exports to the USA continued to expand by a dollar rate of approximately 15% and amounted to approximately 24 million dollars.

Despite the increase, it is difficult to break the boundaries of the kosher market

The meaning of the data is that the majority of wine exports from Israel are still based on the kosher market, which is mostly found in countries with a large Jewish community such as the USA, Great Britain and France

. World-renowned wines have managed to break through the boundaries of the kosher market and be sold outside the wine shelves in kosher stores as well as in the general institutional market - hotels, restaurants and more.
