Is the Minister of Finance threatening a lawsuit against the Histadrut?
According to a senior source: "The Minister of Finance ran amok and said: 'I will close the Histadrut.'" The same source added that at the end of his remarks, Minister Smotrich asked the CEO of his office, Shlomi Heisler, to look into the possibility of filing a lawsuit against the Histadrut for the damages of the strike. The same source added
that Those present were shocked by what he defined as "childish behavior". According to him, following the minister's suggestion, Heisler asked the heads of the departments to try and estimate the weapons caused to the economy due to the strike. The source added: "Obviously, it is impossible to estimate such damages, as much as they were.
The ministry has never filed a lawsuit against the Histadrut because of a strike."
"It seems that the Minister of Finance is losing it, his message is clear: whoever does not line up will be swallowed up.
Civil servants, reservists or heads of the Histadrut."
Another senior official added: "The only way for the Minister of Finance to take revenge on the Histadrut is to promote legislation that would limit the right to strike."
On behalf of the Minister of Finance it was stated: "If someone told you that the Minister of Finance burst out and said these things, he is a liar. During the meeting we discussed the economic consequences of the strike and how we will enforce the law."
The Histadrut said in response
: "The Histadrut will continue to work to unite the divided Israeli society, we will work to unify the ranks. We wish all of Beit Israel a happy holiday."
