One of the technologies is 3DAT (3D Athlete Tracking) - a first-of-its-kind platform that brings artificial intelligence-based motion tracking capabilities and innovative computer vision from the lab to the track. 3DAT combines video streams from multiple cameras and implements a presentation of biomechanical assessments and algorithms to build a three-dimensional image of the shape and movement of the athletes.

The information generated can be used to provide a better interpretation during the broadcast and to provide insights that help train the athletes. This data will also be incorporated into the Olympic broadcast to provide a visual overlay that will be available during repeat runs in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relays and hurdles to be held from July 30th to August 4th.

It is also the first time in the history of the Olympic Games that 5G (fifth generation) based technology will be used in a sailing event. All vessels will compete one or two nautical miles from the shoreline, and a swarm of skimmers and speedboats with 4K cameras will follow them, streaming live video to the mother ship.

These films will then be launched via a commercial 5G network to terrestrial servers that will process and transmit the live broadcast to OBS. This is a unique opportunity to showcase the potential of ultra-short latency, high bandwidth and other benefits that 5G technology offers for live event broadcasts.

Live streaming of the Olympics at a diagnosis of 8K

In Japan, the national broadcast network NHK (via OBS) will offer live streaming at 8K and 60 frames per second and with HDR support for selected Olympic events - such as opening and closing ceremonies and major sporting events.

In Brazil, Intel in collaboration with GlobalTV will stream the Olympics at 8K.

In addition, Intel will hold private events for select customers and executives at Hollywood studios to promote the adoption of Intel's 8K technology.

The video streams filmed using broadcast cameras that can shoot at 8K, and located in the main challenges, are transferred to the International Broadcasting Center in Tokyo, where Intel-based servers process and encode the streams - in real time - before they are streamed to the Internet.
