Contrary to instructions and despite his sons' call: Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox were documented at Rabbi Ovadia's tomb in Jerusalem
The rabbi's students went up to the Sandria cemetery to mark the seventh year of the rabbi's death and were densely documented there, some without masks.
In the last two weeks, his two sons, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef and Rabbi David Yosef, went out not to go to the grave due to the corona restrictions.
Deri joined the call: "Instead of coming, light a candle in his memory"

Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox went to Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's grave this evening (Tuesday) in the Sanhedria Cemetery in Jerusalem, contrary to the Korona's restrictions, and despite calls from the rabbi's sons not to go to the grave.
This is the seventh year in which the death of the rabbi is celebrated.
In the last two weeks, his two sons, the Chief Rabbi of Israel, the Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, and Rabbi David Yosef, a member of the Shas Council of Sages, went out calling not to go to the grave of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef due to the spread of the corona virus.
They called for lighting a candle in his memory in the houses but not for gatherings around his grave.
The rabbi's students were documented huddled around his grave and in the cemetery plaza.
Some were documented without masks near other worshipers.

Despite this, hundreds of the rabbi's students came and prayed at his grave.
Shas chairman, Minister Aryeh Deri, tweeted that "unfortunately, we will not be able to hold a mass aliyah this year to commemorate Rabbi Ovadia Yosef ben Georgia Zatzokal." In his memory, "in the hope that" Maran will stand before the Creator of the world to petition all the people of Israel, to remove from us the accursed plague, "in his words.
