The police stated that they are investigating the death of a 57-year-old off-duty police officer at Cheung Chau Police Station yesterday (December 15).

Police found a 57-year-old male police officer of the Criminal Support Team of Cheung Chau Division injured in a room of Cheung Chau Police Station during the off-duty at 4:38 pm yesterday.

He sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was later certified dead at the scene.

There was a gun next to him, and the police seized the suicide note at the scene.

The corpse of the deceased was sent to the mortuary by Wagong.

After preliminary investigation, it is believed that he committed suicide with the handgun issued.

The police will arrange an autopsy later to determine the cause of death.

The case was investigated by the Regional Crime Squad of Marine Police.

The police expressed deep sadness and regret about the incident, and extended condolences to the family of the police officer and will provide appropriate assistance.

Until 1 am today (16th), after preliminary investigations, the police arranged for a marine police launch to transport the body of the deceased from Cheung Chau to the Marine Police Aberdeen Base on Hong Kong Island.

The FEHD staff waited at the Marine Police Base and then transported the remains to the Dolly Public Mortuary in the Western Region for later post-mortem procedures.

According to the news, the victim was stationed in Sham Shui Po Police District before retiring. He retired a few months ago and was subsequently hired to "castrate" and transferred to Cheung Chau Police Station.

Before the incident, he posted a message in the Whatsapp group of the criminal investigation team to which he was affiliated. The content mentioned apologizing and saying goodbye to everyone, and claimed that he was in the video interview room of the police station.

A colleague rushed to find out and found that the deceased had fallen dead in the video interview room. He was holding a gun in his right hand and there was a wound on his temple.

However, when the ambulance arrived at the scene, it was confirmed that the victim was dead.

The news continued that the police seized the suicide note of the deceased at the scene, claiming that they were suspicious of money problems.

The deceased was on duty night shift the night before. He was off work last morning. He was on holiday today, but he was found dead in the police station.
