Over the weekend, three police vehicles were set on fire near police stations in Safed, Hatzor HaGlilit and Yesod HaMaala.

Two weeks earlier, computers and a gun had been stolen from police stations in Tiberias and Safed.

The police have not yet marked suspects in any of the cases, but as time goes on there is a growing belief that the criminals in the Galilee are trying to convey a targeted message: we are not being tampered with.

"There is a campaign of intimidation and deterrence that the criminals are conducting in front of the police," convinced Brigadier General (Res.) Zvika Fogel, former head of the council in charge of Tuba-Zangaria.

"Residents who want to leave a locality where there is crime and delinquency are imprisoned within them. To whom will they sell their homes? They are forced to stay and suffer and see the helplessness of the state, and meanwhile their children grow up in a reality where the heroes are the criminals walking around with luxury cars."

Within hours: Police raided weapons caches in the north - and two vehicles were set on fire

"A campaign of intimidation and deterrence."

A police car set on fire in Hatzor HaGlilit

Vogel served as chairman of the council in charge from 2008 to 2011, resigning after saying "his blood was allowed" and claiming that an incitement campaign was being waged against him.

During his tenure, rifle bullets were even fired at his local council office and at the same time his car was set on fire.

"We know where the criminals live and we can get to his house, just as we entered your police stations. Do not mess with us. They see that the police have no backup and take advantage of any sign of weakness," he said.

Police still do not have absolute certainty that these are known criminals in the area, but it is clear that this is a major direction of investigation.

A secondary direction of investigation may be related to what is happening these days in the Jerusalem area, in the face of the violent wave of protests since the death of the boy Ahuvia Godfather in a police chase near the Kochav Hashahar settlement.

In recent years, hate crimes have taken place in the Galilee and more than once their source was in the territories, such as the burning of the Church of the Bread and the Fish in the slaughterhouse in the north of the Sea of Galilee.

Weapons heavier than usual.

The suspicion is that the incidents come in response to enforcement operations against the perpetrators.

Hours before the police cars were set on fire on Friday, police raided several complexes in the north and found many weapons in them.

A raid on "Zolot" near Tuba-Zangaria found a 0.5-inch heavy machine gun and a "Carlo" weapon with a cartridge in the insert.

While rifles or pistols are caught in most operations, a heavy machine gun is already a weapon of a different level - it has a much higher firepower and penetration ability.

According to Fogel, "there are many more weapons on the ground that could be enough for the division."

In addition to exposing the weapons caches, police also arrested suspects last week for extortion of sponsorship fees, and confiscated money that was allegedly obtained as part of extortion of sponsorship fees from businesses.

"The detainees return for a walk in a short time"

To understand how serious the phenomenon of extortion of sponsorship fees is in the northern region, one can point to the special conference held about half a month ago in Rosh Pina.

The conference was attended by Minister of Internal Security Amir Ohana and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Alon Schuster, and a long line of officials from the police and various authorities and bodies in the Galilee: Northern District Police Chief Shimon Lavi, Border Police Commander and today Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, heads of local authorities, heads of agricultural organizations And farmers from the area.

In the discussion, the phenomenon of protection, from which farmers, contractors and business owners suffer in the Galilee, resurfaced.

Licensed security companies, as raised in the same discussion, are behind the large extortion plant.

The commander of the Northern District, Superintendent Shimon Lavi, presented the archaic law "Private Investigators and Guard Services Law".

The same 1972 law provides that the offender is liable to imprisonment or a fine of ten thousand pounds.

Saturn noted that in many cases people are arrested, "but return to travel shortly after."
