(Energy and Environment Center Allgäu) presented the current situation of the city of Memmingen with regard to environmental and climate protection.
“This analysis of the current situation is a snapshot and provides information about where the city of Memmingen currently stands. However, it is not static, but is constantly being expanded and adapted in order to map the ongoing processes, ”says Wendl. Nevertheless, you already have an overview of the areas in which - which are included in the European Energy Award (eea) - the city has the most upward potential. But also what things would go well, says Dr. Wendl continues.
This is, for example, the street lighting, which on the one hand is equipped with almost 99 percent energy-saving lights and which is even significantly optimized with the lighting master plan. The city's good network of pedestrian and cycle paths is also worth a few points. Memmingen is currently at 42.2 percent of the possible points. In order to be awarded the eea, one must receive an average of 50 percent of the possible points in the six sub-areas.
The eza sees possible improvements! especially in the area of heating networks, which of course should be operated on the basis of renewable energies. "But it is not possible to calculate an exact CO2 saving for all sub-areas," said Dr. Isabel Wendl out. This is clearly evident in the communication and cooperation sub-area. There is still a lot of room for improvement here, as only 34 percent of the points were achieved. This area included, for example, cooperation with universities, further training for multipliers or cooperation with local business enterprises. The team could also well imagine that information evenings for the population on the subject of building renovation, solar support, photovoltaics or heating renewal could be offered.
In the next meetings, the climate team will deal with two of the six sub-areas of the eea.
The resulting concrete proposals for measures will then be processed by the Memmingen city council.
