Praising the Christmas tree and moving from living room to living room as a group?

Unthinkable in times of Corona.

To ensure that this good old tradition still doesn't work, the Junge Union (JU) Peiting-Steingaden has come up with a very special campaign.

Peiting

- It actually belongs to it: the Christmas tree praise.

In fact, this custom, which developed in the south of Baden-Württemberg at the end of the 19th century and spread to the Allgäu, is about everything that is difficult now during the crisis: about being together, having fun and seeing people again, some of which you may not have seen all year.

A great thing that may not be completely Corona-compliant.

But why not let the Christmas tree praise come alive virtually?

That is what the JU Peiting-Steingaden thought and racked its brains over a few meetings as to how it could work.

Do something good for whores and restaurants

The groundbreaking idea then came from the deputy local chairman Dominik Kochannek (26): The Christmas tree praise takes place online.

The idea for the Facebook competition “Peiting is looking for the super Christmas tree” was born.

"It was clear to us that we couldn't walk from house to house in Corona times and that people might still get infected with Corona when they praise Christmas trees," said Kochannek.

“We wanted to do something good for the people of Peiting, but also for the gastronomy.” Because online praise you can win vouchers from local restaurants, JU-donated.

And how does it actually work now?

Quite simply: If you want to be part of the party with your super Christmas tree, you can put your tree online on the JU Peiting-Steingaden Facebook page.

The decision will not be made by the five-person JU team that is organizing the campaign.

“The community decides who wins,” says Kochannek.

In other words: whoever gets the most likes on the JU site has won.

Vote by December 30th

So far, says Kochannek, pictures of "normal" Christmas trees have come in - even if everything is basically allowed.

Of course, it's about the “super Christmas tree”.

The participants can come up with something.

In general, participation is theoretically only allowed with a decorated branch.

What counts is the appearance - and of course that the tree has to be a real Peitinger, i.e. it has to be in a good Peitinger room.

And because the campaign has gotten off to a good start so far, it is actually being extended: Until December 30th, trees can be posted and liked on the Junge Union Facebook page as much as they can.

It will be interesting to see which splendid little tree will ultimately be adorned with the title “Peitinger Super Christmas Tree”.
