Volkswagen Group calls back 227,000 cars because of airbag problems

Because of problems on the airbags and belt tensioners, the Volkswagen Group must order hundreds of thousands of vehicles in the workshops. In three cases, the airbag already triggered without a previous accident.



Volkswagen and Porsche have to recall just 227,000 cars because of a problem with airbags and belt tensioners. For the vehicles, the software of the airbag control unit requires, according to information from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) an update.

According to lead the error to a "limited function of the airbags and the belt tensioner". There have already been three cases in which these triggered, without causing an accident.

Affected are 203,400 copies of the VW models Tiguan, Sharan and CC from the year of construction 2015 and 23,550 Porsche 911, Boxter, Cayman and Panamera from the years 2015 and 2016. In Germany, about 51,200 Volkswagen and almost 3900 Porsche models in the workshops called.
