In 2017, residents of Sainte-Pazanne, a small town of 6,500 inhabitants in Loire-Atlantique, noted with dismay that six children in the area recently declared cancer, including 4 acute leukemias.
They are moved by the Regional Health Agency of Pays de la Loire.
Two years later, 3 new cases are reported to health authorities.
In total, the citizen collective “Stop the cancers of our children” has identified, since 2015, 22 pediatric cancers around the town of the country of Retz, south of the Loire estuary.
Public Health France, the Pays de la Loire ARS and the Regional Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Housing (Dreal) have just voted on this file, following a year of investigation.
Last year, a first epidemiological study concluded that a higher than expected number of pediatric cancers between January 2015 and March 2019 in the study area of 7 municipalities (Sainte-Pazanne, Port-Saint-Père, Saint- Mars-de-Coutais,
