A man was arrested after desecrating the En Nour mosque in Nice on Sunday, Nice Matin reports.
According to the local newspaper, the man admitted to being the author of the damage committed in the religious establishment.
During the night from Sunday to Monday, the individual had entered the mosque and for nearly an hour, had ransacked equipment located inside, under the watchful eye of surveillance cameras.
"He broke the emergency door and ransacked the mosque, broke all the screens, the computer network, he took prayer dresses and touch pads", according to Mahmoud Benzamia, rector of the En-Nour mosque, quoted by France 3.
The CFCM strongly condemns the sacking of the Ennour mosque in Nice and expresses its total solidarity with its officials and followers.
Significant material damage and theft of computer equipment are to be deplored.
The alleged perpetrator has reportedly been identified.

The man had already been seen a few days earlier in front of the mosque.
He had left a porcelain teddy bear in front of the door.
These degradations, denounced by the mayor of the city Christian Estrosi, have not yet been quantified, recalls Nice Matin.
Those in charge of this prayer hall are asking for increased surveillance by the police services in front of this mosque "and all other Muslim places of worship".
