Moorbrand, migraine and Meiler on demand - the reading recommendations of the week from the SPIEGEL science editorial team

No?

Then you are not alone.

The topic of corona, psychologist Cornelia Betsch from the University of Erfurt told me in an interview, worries Germans less than in earlier phases of the pandemic.

People now find out more about the climate and Ukraine crisis than about the virus.

And for many, Covid-19 has lost some of its terror, with fewer and fewer people going to the PCR test with a positive rapid test result.

At regular intervals, Betsch and her team ask thousands of citizens between the ages of 18 and 74 about their mental health, especially in relation to the corona pandemic.

They have just evaluated the 67th survey - and were surprised at how many of those surveyed did not know, for example, at what age children should be vaccinated against the virus according to Stiko's recommendation.

The "Cosmo" study also provides data on the - surprisingly large - immunity gaps in the population, on the number of Long Covid patients or on how many people have already been infected with the virus several times.

In the third summer of the pandemic, Betsch, who is a member of the Corona Expert Council of the Chancellery, is rather optimistic about the future.

"We have become much more competent in dealing with the virus," she told me, "we don't have to sit in the corner and be afraid."
