After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich agreed last week to establish a civilian war control center headed by Israel Electric Corporation CEO Meir Spiegler, his candidacy for the position was withdrawn on Sunday after claims were raised that it would work for a conflict of interest.
Spiegler, who in the past also served as director general of the National Insurance Institute, was supposed to head a control center that would integrate the work of all government ministries related to the civilian aspects of the war and provide regular updates to the public during the war.

Israel Hayom has learned that the fact that he serves as CEO of an electric company and will not be able to hold both positions has created bureaucratic difficulties. Among other things, claims were raised in the Commission and the Ministry of Justice about a clash of interests between the positions, and it was also claimed that the position of CEO of the Israel Electric Corporation during an emergency period is a challenging position, so that the two roles cannot be performed together.
