The school club of the association L'aile de l'Ange, which graciously occupied the disused Jacques Ellul college, was asked to leave the premises.

Le Figaro Bordeaux

Like Icarus, the broken wing of the Angel is in tears.

The Bordeaux association of Ukrainians, which had opened a school club in February so that their children "

do not forget where they were born

", is dislodged by Bordeaux Métropole.

The institution, which had granted him a right of occupation on a precarious basis of the disused premises of the Jacques Ellul college, retracted on March 26.

"

The association has spread out and exceeded the prerogatives that were indicated in the agreement

: it welcomes the public when it was not planned and Bordeaux Métropole is not insured for this type of activity in these premises.

“, justifies in writing the public establishment.

for logistical purposes

" in order to prepare convoys of parcels to be sent to Ukraine.

"

He had hinted during the last renewal of the lease that we could arrange

," chokes Kristina Jay Kernistka.

The spokesperson for the association “

does not understand why this evacuation is so rapid and so violent when there is already a lot of violence in the lives of these children

”.

For some "

depressed

" by the war that has ravaged their country since February 24, 2022, around sixty children were welcomed on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

For them, these walls had become a refuge.

The association had also begun to repaint them with the help of their parents to make them more welcoming.

They signed a lease with the diaconate of Bordeaux.

Migrants must settle in the next wing

Kristina Jay Kernistka, spokesperson for the association L'aile de l'Ange

According to L'aile de l'Ange, dislodged a month after the publicity of the opening of its club, if "

Bordeaux Métropole does not want to hear any of the solutions proposed

", it is for a completely different reason.

They signed a lease with the diaconate of Bordeaux.

Migrants have to settle in the next wing

, ”says Kristina Jay Kernistka.

"

They don't want to take the risk of cohabitation with adults

," she deciphers.

Entitled to revoke the loan of the premises for which it financed the expenses, Bordeaux Métropole indeed assumes this correlation.

The reception was planned for the diaconate and not for L'aile de l'Ange.

The objective of respecting the conventions is that there can be a good coexistence of the various occupants on the whole of the site

”, thus indicates the public establishment.

“Morale is at zero”

For the members of this street school club, this administrative decision is experienced as an injustice.

"

I didn't see the problem coming.

We are not squatters.

Morale is at zero and I think we are going to lose part of the team

, ”says Kristina Jay Kernistka, very moved by this idea.

As a solution, Bordeaux Métropole offers to welcome these children in “

nearby structures (entertainment center, library)

”.

An eventuality far from suitable for L'aile de l'Ange, which gave lessons.

We are not an outdoor center

,” insists Kristina Jay Kernistka.

For the moment, the parents have been informed by letter of the closure, but the volunteers "

did not have the courage to disappoint

" the little ones who are not yet aware of it.

Their spokesperson however goes to the evidence: "

If we do not find sponsorship or free premises, we will not be able to continue

".
