Femicide by Julie Douib: Bruno Garcia sentenced on appeal to life imprisonment with 22 years of security

The verdict of the trial of one of the most significant feminicides of recent years has finally fallen.

Bruno Garcia-Cruciani, found guilty of murder, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday, accompanied by a 22-year security sentence for having killed his ex-companion Julie Douib, in 2019 on the Ile- Rousse (Upper Corsica).

This 46-year-old sports shooter had admitted to shooting his ex-girlfriend, whom he suspected of having cheated on him, on the morning of Sunday March 3, 2019, but denied any premeditation.

He notably denied having gone to her house with the intention of killing her and having practiced in her garden with a silencer the day before the incident.

The violence of the murder as well as the absence of regret from Cruciani, who had notably claimed his gesture in prison, apparently convinced the judges to follow the requisitions of the prosecution pronounced a little earlier in the afternoon.

A social shock, this crime, the 30th feminicide out of 149 in 2019 in France, had aroused a wave of indignation in the country, leading to the organization by the government of a "Grenelle" on violence against women.

At first instance in 2021, Bruno Garcia-Cruciani was found guilty and sentenced to this sentence accompanied by a security period of 22 years and the deprivation of his parental authority over his two children, now aged 12 and 14. .

The president of the assize court considered at the time that "the ultimate violence" of the assassination was "sufficient" to lead to this conviction, regardless of domestic violence.
