A fire broke out in the night from Wednesday to Thursday in a building in the district of Buers in Villeurbanne, a suburb of Lyon (Rhône), killing one and injuring eight. The fire broke out around 1 a.m. and required the intervention of 80 firefighters according to LyonMag, which revealed the disaster.
The victim is a 45-year-old man, who could not be rescued by firefighters. According to BFM Lyon, the fire would have taken on the ground floor, "in an apartment that extends over two levels with a part in the basement". However, the inhabitants were quickly evacuated and taken care of by the emergency services. The eight people injured are only slightly affected, says Le Progrès.
The fire was brought under control by firefighters after a few hours, the last intervention vehicles left the scene around 6:45 am Thursday morning. Residents who had been evacuated and whose apartments were not affected were able to return to their homes.
The Rhône had already been in mourning in December, when a fire ravaged an eight-storey building in the town of Vaulx-en-Velin. Ten people, including four children, were killed in this tragedy.
