Pablo Martinez: "A perfect week"

2020-02-08T22:55:11.757Z

Already winners of Monaco and Dijon, the Nîmes have chained a third victory this week, the first away, on the lawn of OGC Nice (1-3). What give a broad smile to the captain of the "Crocos" Pablo Martinez…

Our correspondent in Nîmes

Pablo, what does this first victory of the season outside of the Olympic Nimes inspire in you?
It's a victory that does us a lot of good and it's above all a perfect week: three games, three wins. This had never happened to us, so we savor it. We're smiling, we're going to have a good week.

Can this success acquired with fashion be a turning point in your season?
I don't know if this will be a turning point in the season, I hope. In any case, we glue in front and that's what we wanted. We knew that there was a blow to do today because it was the fourth game of Nice in a short time and that there was going to be fatigue on their side. We exploited these flaws well.

How did you experience the different facts of the game: the goal canceled by the VAR, the injury of Romain Philippoteaux, who scores just before going out…
We first take a goal quickly, which can unfortunately be avoided. But behind, we reacted really well. We come back to 1-1 at half time, even if we have this goal which is denied us for a hand which, for my taste, is very involuntary. It is very hard to see this goal refused, but in the end there is the victory. So we are not going to debate the VAR yet. As long as we win, the rest we don't care.

Can you explain to us what happened with Romain Philippoteaux, who suffered a very severe tackle and scored in stride before going out on injury?
I don't know how he did it. On the tackle, I was close to the action and I was very very scared. When I saw the player arrive at this speed (Boudaoui, note) and take the tip of Romain's ankle, I was very scared. In addition, he was a little shocked, it looks like he was delirious a little. But behind, he manages to get up, stay on the ground and score this goal. I think he had to score that goal to come out calm and free because he was frustrated with this goal refused in the first half.

At halftime, you were seen filing a reservation with the referee. What was the reason?
I was asked to deposit a reserve because, apparently, on the refused goal, the ball touches the body before touching the arm and I was told that it was a "manifest error": this is what i reported to the referee. But in the end, we won on the ground and this reserve will have been useless. It's not worse.
