The playdowns are getting closer and closer for EA Schongau. But even if the "mammoths" have to play against relegation - team manager Martin Resch remains calm.

Schongau - There was some really good news for EA Schongau this weekend: Milan Kopecky is on the mend after his collapse. With this beautiful piece of news in mind, it was much easier for the “mammoths” to concentrate on the sport again. At the guest appearance in Pfaffenhofen it was easy to see - even if the Bayernliga game was ultimately lost again with 2: 4.

"We were good at the game and showed that we are competitive," said team manager Martin Resch, who represented the sick trainer Andreas Leschinger at the gang. "It was important for us that we concentrate on ice hockey again." That was not possible the previous week, because it was a 0: 13 loss to Königsbrunn. "We weren't ready in our heads yet."

Ready for ice hockey again

Friday already. "The game was balanced for 60 minutes," says Resch. The “Mammuts” even put a quick backlog. After only 15 seconds they took the 0: 1. But Schongau stayed with it. New signing Ronald Dvonc equalized nine minutes later. "It was a nice action," Resch praised the attacker, for whom the debut was difficult - he had signed before Kopecky's breakdown, but only joined the team a few days later. It wasn't just the depressed mood that made life difficult. On top of that, the long list of injuries means that the rows have to be rearranged again and again - importing them is not easy. Resch is nevertheless optimistic that Dvonc will grow into the team and become a support for Schongau. "The first impressions are positive," he says. "We are sure that he can become an important player."

After Dvonc's goal in Pfaffenhofen, the tie lasted until the 37th minute. Then Friedrich Kolesnikov met in the majority for the hosts. And again Schongau came back - Jonas Lautenbacher equalized in the last third. However, the "Mammoths" simply failed to score another goal. "We need too many chances to score," says Resch. “You also notice that a second foreigner is missing.” Instead, Pfaffenhofen took the lead again. Nick Endress made it 3-2 with nine minutes to go. Resch now had to play poker, took goalie Lukas Müller off the ice and sent a sixth outfield player on it. Endress used this for the “Empty Net” goal and thus for the 4-2 winning goal for Pfaffenhofen.

Hardly to avert play-downs

"We just lack the tiniest bit of luck," says Resch. "But that's how ice hockey is." Yes, that's how ice hockey is - and sometimes things can change quickly. They won 3-0 against TSV Peißenberg on Sunday evening, with four more home games and one away game.

Resch is positive about the further situation. With Simon Maucher and Simon Fend two injured players are back. Jakub Muzik's back complaints are also decreasing. With a larger squad "we are ready for the play-downs".

It is not yet clear whether Schongau will have to play the knockout round against relegation. But with five games to go, this is becoming more and more likely for the “mammoths”. Resch is aware of this: "To avert the play-downs, we would need a medium-sized ice hockey miracle."
